Gut check - a fight for chrohns and colitis

I've created this page because I want to make a difference.

On November 14, I’m stepping into a boxing ring for something bigger than the fight itself.

More than 322,000 Canadians live with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. These are lifelong diseases that can be painful, unpredictable, exhausting, and isolating. And right now, there is no cure.

This cause has become personal to me.

Training for a fight is hard. It requires discipline, discomfort, and the willingness to keep showing up when you would rather stop. In a small way, that feels fitting for a fundraiser supporting people who live with Crohn’s and colitis every day—without getting to choose when the fight starts or ends.

So I decided to make this fight count.

I’m raising money for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada to support research, better treatments, improved quality of life, and ultimately, cures.

On November 14, I’ll fight for three rounds.

For people living with Crohn’s and colitis, the fight lasts much longer.

If you’re able to donate, attend, share the fundraiser, or simply support the cause, it means a lot.

Every dollar gets us one step closer to a future where nobody has to live with these diseases.

Gut check - all in

Thursday 8th Oct
Today, shit got real.

Six months ago, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

Six weeks ago, I signed up for a charity boxing match to push myself outside my comfort zone and raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

60 minutes ago, I finished one of the hardest, most humbling workouts of my life. (Not saying that bar is particularly high.)

Some guys have a midlife crisis and buy a sports car or change their look.

I decided to get punched in the face in front of hundreds of people on November 14.

I’ve been hesitant to post much about this because, frankly, I wasn’t entirely sure I’d have the guts to follow through.

But after tonight’s humbling experience in the ring, something changed. I got a pretty good look at how far I have to go, and somehow, I’m more determined than ever.

It’s NOV14 or NEVER.

I’d love your support. And there are a few ways you can give it.

1. Let’s get moving. I have private boxing classes on Sundays where everyone’s welcome. Or I’d be happy to join you doing whatever keeps you active. Even yoga. Probably.

2. Follow @corytrieshard on Instagram. I’m documenting the journey. Partly as a diary, partly to measure my progress, and partly because I suspect there’s going to be some pretty entertaining footage. Haters welcome.

3. Come watch me fight on November 14. Tickets range from $75–$150, and I’d love to have you in my corner. DM me for details.

4. Consider making a donation. Can’t make the fight? Don’t have Instagram? Don’t want to watch me struggle through your yoga class? You can still support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. I’m raising money to help fund research, better treatments, and hopefully one day a cure. If I hit my fundraising target, I’ll do something ridiculous voted on by my donors

5. Share your own story. What are you working toward? What’s been harder than you expected? What are the parts nobody sees? And why does it matter to you?

I’d genuinely love to hear about it. I think the world could use a little more of that, and a little less of everybody pretending they’ve got it all figured out.

I certainly don’t.

But I’m showing up anyway.

Love you all.

NOV14 OR NEVER. 🥊
