Go Further Fundraising Policies
Go Further is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s do-it-yourself (DIY) personal fundraising program. It’s designed for those who wish to organize their own event(s) in support of our Promise. No matter the size or scale, these volunteer-led efforts are considered independent of the organization, with participants responsible for event planning, costs/expenses and execution. All fundraisers must agree to the policies outlined below to ensure transparency, consistency, and alignment with our values.
Please note that all Go Further events will be subject to approval by a Crohn’s and Colitis Canada staff member before the event can go live. We will endeavor to review and approve all events within two business days. If we have concerns about the nature of your fundraiser, but believe it is still viable, we will reach out to you to clarify any adjustments that must be made to grant approval.
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is not responsible for content posted or shared by personal fundraisers. If you see content that seems inappropriate or misaligned with our values, please notify us. We reserve the right to revoke our support or remove event listings, images, or pages if an event does not reflect our Promise, mission, and values.
If you’re uncertain about whether your event fits within Go Further, please feel free to reach out to gofurther@crohnsandcolitis.ca to speak with a member of our team.
Event Organizer Responsibilities
As the Go Further event organizer, you are fully accountable for all aspects of your fundraiser. This includes but is not limited to logistics, promotion, budgeting, and permits.
Please remember that your event is independent of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. You may not represent yourself as an employee or official spokesperson of the organization.
While we value your invitation to attend or speak at your event, we’re unfortunately not always able to accommodate every request due to staff capacity and scheduling. If you’d like to request a Crohn’s and Colitis Canada staff member at your event, please email gofurther@crohnsandcolitis.ca outlining the details of your event.
Liability
As a third-party fundraiser for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, you are not permitted to collect, retain, or share personal donor information, including names, contact details (e.g. phone numbers, email addresses) or donation amounts. This policy ensures compliance with privacy laws (PIPEDA), CRA’s guidelines for third-party fundraising and aligns with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s commitment to protecting donor confidentiality.
All donations must be directed through official Crohn’s and Colitis Canada channels to ensure proper receipting, stewardship, and data security.
For questions about tax receipts or donor records, individuals should be referred directly to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
Donor Stewardship and Privacy
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is not party to any liability coverage without prior knowledge. Crohn’s and Colitis Canada accepts no legal responsibility and cannot be held liable for any risk or injury.
Depending on your fundraiser, you may need licenses or permits (e.g., for park rentals, alcohol service, or road closures). Event organizers are responsible for meeting all municipal, provincial, and federal standards and fulfilling all legal authorizations, permits, licenses, and insurance needs required to host the event.
Event Promotion
To help support your fundraising event, we can provide a “Proudly Supporting Crohn’s and Colitis Canada” logo for use on event materials (e.g., posters, social media graphics, t-shirts). You will be able to find the files for this in the Fundraising Dashboard once you’ve registered your event for Go Further and it’s been approved by a Crohn’s and Colitis Canada staff member.
Please note:
- The official Crohn’s and Colitis Canada organizational logo may not be used to promote Go Further fundraising events
- Do not alter the colours, dimensions, or elements of the Proudly Supporting logo
- You may only reference the organization’s name in a secondary context, such as:
“This event is held in support of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.” - All promotional content using the Proudly Supporting logo must be submitted for review and approval prior to publication or distribution
- We may request edits to ensure alignment with our brand
- Unauthorized use of our trademarks or copyrighted materials may result in legal consequences
- Please allow at least two weeks for approval of any materials; additional time may be needed for larger fundraisers
Additionally:
- Unfortunately, not all Go Further events may be promoted in our Talk About Guts newsletter, emails, and social media channels, but you may request that your event be listed on the official Crohn's and Colitis Canada website (crohnsandcolitis.ca), should you opt-in to this upon registration of your event; depending on the nature of your event there may be potential for additional promotion on other channels, however, please note this is determined on a case-by-case basis
- We cannot distribute press releases or provide media contact lists
- We can offer you a Media Release template to support your outreach—this can be found in your Fundraiser Dashboard upon registration and approval of your event
- We cannot sell tickets, auction items, or merchandise on behalf of your event
Media Engagement
Should any media outlets have any questions about the cause or the organization’s programs, please refer them to a member of our team at gofurther@crohnsandcolitis.ca.
Event Expenses
Unfortunately, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is unable to reimburse you for expenses incurred for your fundraiser. As the event organizer, it is your responsibility to maintain accurate accounting for your event, logistical costs, and marketing and promotion associated.
Tax Receipts
Crohn’s and Colitis Canada will only provide charitable tax receipts in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations.
Online donations of $15 or more will automatically receive tax receipts via email.
We cannot issue tax receipts for:
- Event ticket sales
- Any gambling-related events or activities
- Silent auction purchases
- Goods or services received in exchange for a donation
- Sponsorships or in-kind donations
Receipts are to be issued only to the individual or business donating. All donations must be received by December 31 to qualify for a receipt for that calendar year.
Donor Privacy and Information Handling
As a third-party fundraiser for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, you are not permitted to collect, retain, or share personal donor information, including names, contact details, or donation amounts. This policy ensures compliance with privacy laws and aligns with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s commitment to protecting donor confidentiality. All donations must be directed through official Crohn’s and Colitis Canada channels to ensure proper receipting, stewardship, and data security. If donors have questions or wish to receive a tax receipt, they should be referred directly to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
