I've created this page because I want to make a difference.
My name is Marissa Jawanda, and I am a Grade 12 student at Sands Secondary. For my Capstone project, I am hosting a charity volleyball tournament at my school to raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. When I was six years old, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and have spent the past 12 years quietly fighting this disease. For a long time, I felt ashamed or scared to share my medical journey because I worried others might misunderstand my condition. The goal of this tournament is not only to raise $700, but also to create greater awareness of this invisible disease. Although Crohn’s and Colitis often have few visible symptoms, those diagnosed are constantly on their own journey toward better health. I hope everyone will show their support by donating or attending my event, helping to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make a meaningful difference for those living with Crohn’s and Colitis.
